Description

With four concrete pillars marking out a large thrust performance space, an eclectic mix of audience seating on three sides of the stage, and a craft beer bar, The Bunker is a visceral and unique performance space with a character of its own.

The Bunker believes in artists. We give ambitious artists a home in which to share their work with adventurous audiences. We are champions of each piece that we programme and we want to ensure our stage is filled with exciting, exhilarating, and contemporary theatre featuring artists that represent the world that we live in. We have a free-to-use Writers Snug for artists to work in and develop their craft.

History

The Bunker was opened in October 2016 by founding directors Joshua McTaggart and Joel Fisher. The theatre’s first year of work included the award-winning sell-out show SKIN A CAT and Cardboard Citizen’s 25th Anniversary epic HOME TRUTHS. In-house productions have included festivals MY WHITE BEST FRIEND (and other letters left unsaid) and THIS IS BLACK as well as DEVIL WITH THE BLUE DRESS and the double bill KILLYMUCK & BOX CLEVER.

In September 2018, Artistic Director Chris Sonnex joined Executive Director David Ralf to lead the theatre’s dedicated team, several of whom were involved in the original conversion of the space. Bunker Theatre Productions CIC is a not-for-profit theatre, which currently receives no public subsidy.
