History

Founded in 1977 by Artistic Director Jatinder Verma, Tara has been based at 356 Garratt Lane in Earlsfield since 1981. Originally The Tara Arts Centre, the venue staged a wide variety of events from community performances to dance and art exhibitions.

Tara Theatre has a studded history in Earlsfield. Starting life as a Mission Hall in 1896, it has been a Draper's, an Opticians, a Chiropodists and a Church for newly-arrived migrants. To this history of clothes, eyes, feet & soul, Tara is adding words to breathe dramatic life in a building perched between the centuries.
