Description

The Yard is a multi-award winning theatre, bar and kitchen housed in a converted warehouse in Hackney Wick, East London, by the canal and overlooking the Olympic Park.

The Yard is about new ideas, new writing and the live event. We are dedicated to providing a platform for artists/companies and their work that cannot be found elsewhere in London.

We programme through a process of open submissions at particular points in the year, offering practical and artistic support in order remove the barriers for creating work that prevent artists and audiences from taking risks.

History

The Yard Theatre was conceived by Artistic Director Jay Miller, designed by Practice Architecture and built in the summer of 2011 using recycled and reclaimed materials. The converted warehouse is home to a 110 seat amphitheatre and an adjoining bar and kitchen. Situated in Hackney Wick, right by the Olympic Park, The Yard is forming an integral part of the regeneration that is rapidly occurring around it.

In just two years, The Yard has supported hundreds of artists, welcomed thousands to the venue and is fast becoming the home for contemporary British theatre.
