ABOVE THE STAG THEATRE was established in 2008 and is the UK's only dedicated LGBT+ theatre and produces the vast majority of its shows in-house. The multi award-winning theatre houses two theatre spaces - a 100 seat end-on Main House theatre for more mainstream productions and a 60+ seat newly refurbished Studio designed to support new-writing and emerging talent. The theatre also has a large, welcoming bar and and a dedicated rehearsal space. Known for its focus on LGBT+ themed work, Above The Stag Theatre presents drama, comedies, musicals and cabaret, an award-winning annual pantomime, play readings and exhibitions.

History

Above the Stag was founded in 2008 in a function room above the now-demolished Stag gay pub in Victoria, before moving to its first Vauxhall venue in 2013, growing a large and loyal audience. After a major fundraising campaign, Above the Stag Theatre moved to new premises on Albert Embankment in 2018 lead by its current Artistic Director Andrew Beckett.
